Welcome To Bevan Design Outdoor Learning

At Bevan Design Outdoor Learning we aim, to provide quality clothing, tools, equipment and resources for outdoor learning and forest school.

We have experience of both forest school leadership and teaching within the foundation phase and we know how important it is to be able to easily access the resources you need. We currently provide quality waterproof clothing, a range tools suitable for outdoor learning, forest school and roleplay, a selection of wood products including wood cookies and kindling, health safety equipment and firelighting and bug watching equipment. Having started in October 2006 we are continually expanding our product range as we aim to become your one stop shop for forest school and outdoor learning.

At Bevan Design we believe that there is no such thing as unsuitable weather just unsuitable clothing and so we provide resources that will enable your children to have learning experiences outdoors throughout the year, whatever the weather!

Forest School

'Forest School is an inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment.'

'The key features of Forest School were identified as:

  • the use of a woodland setting
  • a high ratio of adults to pupils
  • learning linked to the National Curriculum and Foundation-Stage objectives
  • the freedom to explore using multiple senses
  • regular contact for the children with Forest School over a significant period of time'

'Forest School can contribute to four of the five outcomes that are part of the government framework, Every child matters (Chief Secretary to the Treasury, 2003), identified by children as key to well-being:

    1. to be healthy
    2. stay safe
    3. enjoy and achieve
    4. make a positive contribution

In addition, the Forest School setting itself can be seen as a useful formative evaluation tool for practitioners in understanding and assessing a child’s skills and abilities, and in identifying how these change over time.'
O’Brien, Elizabeth A.; Murray, Richard; A marvellous opportunity for children to learn: a participatory evaluation of Forest School in England and Wales, Forest Research, 2006, Farnham.

    Outdoor Learning

Across the UK outdoor learning is becoming an essential part of the foundation stage (England) / foundation phase (Wales) curriculum and the use of forest school is growing particularly within early years and key stage 1. The foundation phase document for Wales places great emphasis on the use of the outdoors as a resource for learning and schools across the UK are developing their outdoor areas into suitable learning environments.
